Morta, of Pensacola, Florida, entered the Army in September 2019 as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle mechanic. Since May 2020, he had been assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, according to a statement from Fort Hood. Morta’s awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Stillhouse Hollow Lake is a reservoir located in Bell County and managed by the US Army Engineers Guild Fort Worth District.
“The Dark Knight family is really broken by the tragic loss of Private Mejhor Morta,” says 1. Brigade 5. Cavalry Commander Col. Neil Armstrong. Regiment. “I want to send my sincere condolences to my family, friends and loved ones.”
Army Times said the incident is currently under investigation by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department. Morta’s death was not immediately released.
Army Times says Morta joined the Army in September 2019, and his registry house is listed as Pensacola. In May, he was appointed to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
According to Army Times, Morta’s battalion commander made a statement Tuesday saying that the unit was broken due to the loss and wished condolences to Morta’s family.
Lieutenant Col. Neil Armstrong said, “My thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time. “Private Morta was a great soldier, and this loss is felt by every member in our formation.”
According to Army Times, officials did not say whether foul play was suspected in Morta’s death.
Morta’s death was caused by two other Fort Hood soldiers – 20-year-old Spc. Vanessa Guillen and 24-year-old Pvt. Gregory Morales.
The incident is being investigated by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, which does not immediately respond to a request seeking comments from the Associated Press.
The authorities did not say whether the death was suspect.

On June 21, officials later discovered skeletal remains in an area in Killeen, just over 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Stillhouse Hollow Lake, identified as 24-year-old missing Fort Hood soldier Gregory Morales. US Army officials said they suspect that he was fouled in his death.
Then, on July 1, US Army officials then 20-year-old missing Fort Hood military Spc. Near the River Leon in Bell County, Vanessa Guillen is about 32 kilometers east of Fort Hood.
There is no indication that Morales and Guillen’s deaths are interconnected. Congressmen joined female advocates on Tuesday to continue the call for changes in the military’s way of dealing with sexual abuse and harassment after Guillen’s death, which the researchers believed was killed and shattered by a person stationed at the same base in Fort Hood.
