Miriam Adelson (formerly Ochshorn) was born in 1946. He is an Israeli American philanthropist, doctor, and political donor. She married American business magnate Sheldon Adelson in 1991 and has since become a prominent Republican party donor. Miriam is the trustee and co-founder of Adelson Family Foundation. She was also an executive director and co-founder of AMRF. She is the current publisher of the Israel Hayom newspaper. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson were presented with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars of the Smithsonian Institution in 2008. In 2013, she received honorary citizenship of Jerusalem.
It is being reported that her husband has died from complications related to treatment he was receiving for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, according to Las Vegas Sands, the casino and resort company Adelson owned.

Miriam Adelson Biography

Adelson was born in Tel Aviv, Mandatory, Palestine in 1945, to parents who fled Poland before the Holocaust. Her father was a prominent member of the Mapam political party. Her family settled in the city of Haifa in the 1950s, where Adelsons’ father owned and operated several movie theaters. She studied Hebrew at Reali School. She served mandatory army service as a medical officer at Ness Ziona. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a medical degree from Tel Aviv University’s Sackler Medical School, she went on to become the chief internist in an emergency room at Tel Aviv’s Rokach (Hadassah) Hospital. Adelson then married Ariel Ochshorn, a physician, with whom she had two children.

Adelson divorced Ochshorn in the 1980s, and in 1986 she went to Rockefeller University on an exchange program, specializing in drug addiction. She was mentored by and collaborated with Mary Jeanne Kreek. While at Rockefeller, she met Sheldon Adelson, whom she married in 1991. In 1993, she founded a substance abuse center and research clinic there, and in 2000, the couple opened Dr Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Research Clinic in Las Vegas. She is credited with influencing Sheldon’s political views on Israel and served as one of ‘finance vice-chairs’ for the inauguration of Donald Trump. In 2007, Adelson was awarded an honorary doctorate by Tel Aviv University.

Trump will also posthumously recognize the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest honor for a civilian. The awards will be bestowed by Trump on 16th November 2018.

Adelson died on January 12, 2021, at the age of 87. The Las Vegas Sands confirmed in a press release that he had died the previous day “from complications related to treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma”.

Adelson, whose net worth was estimated by Forbes to be around $ 33 billion, had been among the most-watched donors supporting President Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection effort.

In 2001, Adelson was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, which restricts his ability to stand and walk. On February 28, 2019, Las Vegas Sands announced that Adelson was receiving treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The news was disclosed after a Sands attorney claimed Adelson was too weak to sit for a deposition in a court case involving Richard Suen. Sands spokesman Ron Reese said the side effects of Adelson ‘s medical treatment had “restricted his availability to travel or keep regular office hours” but had not “prevented him from fulfilling his duties as chairman and CEO” of Las Vegas Sands.
