McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said at a press conference Saturday evening that officers were shot by a suspect when they approached the door of a house.

When two additional officers arrived, he ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, but the suspect shot and killed himself, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez identified the suspect as 23-year-old Audon Camarillo and said he had a previously accused history, including driving under influence, escaping from the police, attacking and possessing marijuana.

“We are weakened for now, but the strength and determination we have to serve our communities here, all of us, will allow us to do what we do every day and what our officers do every day.” Said. “We rise in the face of boredom and still serve.”

McAllen is located in southern Texas along the US-Mexico border.

Texas Attorney General requested by the police in a tweet said it will offer any assistance. Governor Greg Abbott tweeted that he reached Rodriguez and gave his condolences and full support.
